No sooner had Time+Space arrived at SuperBooth 2018 there was a game changing announcement! Virtual instrument heavyweights, Spectrasonicsasonics, revolutionised the state of software synthesis in May 2015 with the release of Omnisphere 2, and three years later they’re doing it again. Omnisphere 2.5 is going to be a public beta, and is going to be a free update to all registered users from May 2018.
Hardware Synth Integration
The most common irritation around soft synths tends to be the soft aspect. “I like to touch buttons and faders” we hear you cry day after day… Well put your fears to rest, Spectrasonics have answered the call. This isn’t your typical CC MIDI Learn capabilities that works with your hardware synth. This is a true integration with popular hardware from Moog, Dave Smith Instruments, Roland, Korg, Behringer, Novation and Sequential – with more on the way.
Each hardware synthesizer has a unique ‘hardware profile’ in Omnisphere. This allows each special feature of every hardware synth to seamlessly integrate with the software. You can expect ‘sophisticated interactions from a single touch of a knob, including the ability for Omnisphere to automatically recall entire FX racks, assign multiple scaled parameters and even instantly create complex modulation matrix routings on-the-fly’.

Expanded Synthesis Capabilities
Omnisphere 2 brought sophisticated synthesis, voice layering and modulation routings to the party – version 2.5 is raising the bar. Spectrasonics has DOUBLED Omnisphere’s architecture giving you four layers per patch. Each patch can now use 12 envelopes, 8 LFOs and 48 modulation routings. Owners of the OB-6 synth will also have access to State Variable Filters with their hardware profile to blend between lowpass, notch and hipass filter modes.
Omnisphere 2.5 will include over 50 new ‘Analog’ Oscillator Wavetables that will be accessible in the hardware profiles.

Eric Persing and the Spectrasonics team have spent time working on hundreds of new patches that can be used with the Hardware Synth Integration feature. Each synth comes with a corresponding set of sounds, designed using that particular synth. All of the sounds are available for ALL users and it certainly brings your analog beauty closer to your digital workstation.
